Calcasieu Lake Marine Debris

A grant funded through NOAA's Marine Debris Program, in partnership with Louisiana Sea Grant, the Coastal Conservation Association, the Lake Charles Power Squadron and the LSU Ag Center provides for a voluntary effort for marking marine debris generated from Hurricane Rita.

Volunteers will be marking debris in Calcasieu Lake, West Cove, and Moss Lake. As hazards are marked and their locations are reported, they will be posted on the following graphics.

These graphics are provided for information only and are not to be used for navigation.

Calcasieu Lake at the head of Calcasieu Pass, 6 miles from the Gulf, is 15 miles long, 3 to 5 miles wide, and 5 to 7 feet deep. The shore areas on the S and W sides of the lake are part of the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.

West Cove

Moss Lake

This website is provided and maintained by NOAA's Coast Pilot Branch (CPB) as a service to the Gulf areas that were damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the mariners who use these waterways. This website does not supercede Coast Pilot 5. Information sent to CPB for this website is also evaluated for inclusion in the next edition of Coast Pilot 5. Critical information is published in the 8th Coast Guard District's Local Notice to Mariners.
