Local:
     New Jersey State and Federal Pilot with the New Jersey Sandy Hook Pilots Association
                
Piloting thousands of vessels through the waters of New York and New Jersey
Elected to the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Sandy Hook Pilots Association annually from 1989 through 2000 and 2002
Member of the Finance Committee of the Joint Board of Trustees of the Sandy Hook Pilots Association during the above mentioned period (responsible for “running the business portion” of the Association (approximately $30million per year)) Chairman 1995 and 1996
Director of Training (December 1995 – December 1997) responsible for the Apprentice Program and the Continuing Education Program for Pilots
Developed and a member of pilot safety committee since 1989
Developed pilot accident investigation team to work with local and Federal investigators to determine cause and action to be taken to avoid further similar incidents
Active on the Harbor Safety, Navigation and Operations Committee since 1989 and Chairman since 1995.
Have been involved with NOAA since 1991 (assisting in the installation of a PORT System, charting issues, surveying, etc.)
Volunteer for the Catastrophic Search and Rescue Committee for the Port
Involved in the Multi-Agency Local Response Team MALRT (OPA 90) for the New York area
Involved in the Y2K Drill for the Port of New York (attended by G8 and UN Staff as well as the media)
Assisted the COTP by directing marine traffic during the 9-11 WTC disaster evacuation and subsequent sealift
Liaison between the Sandy Hook Pilots and Operation Sail 92’ and 2000, charged with planning and directing the Parade and berthing of The Tall Ships
Member of the Area Maritime Security Committee - Chair of the Infrastructure Protection Sub-Committee
Board of Directors - Surface Navy Association of Greater NY
Board of Directors - The Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler
Board of Directors- Nation’s Port


NATIONAL
Member and Chairman - MERPAC - Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee
Original member of the Technology and Navigation Committee - Vice Chairman- of the American Pilots Association responsible for assessing new technology, new Training Programs and other navigational issues
Member of the Human Factors Group an independent and private association of industry, research and medical professionals who are engaged in the study of human factors, fatigue, workload, manning, training and other performance related subjects
NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD- Initiated the APA/NTSB accident investigation Committee to participate in accident investigations when a pilot or pilotage issues are involved. (Have already participated in three such investigations personally)
Certified Accident Investigator by both ABS and DMV
Member of the US delegation to STW-29 and 34 at IMO
Member of the Society of Marine Consultants
