Call for Applications - process for NOAA’s HSRP membership

The Call for Applications for new HSRP members is open on an ongoing basis. Applications for the next term should be submitted no later than May 30, 2017. New members will serve terms starting January 1, 2018. Members serve for four years.

You can review the requirements, criteria and questions for applicants and how to submit it in the Federal Register Notice, HSRP Membership Soliciation for 2018 (FRN) or at https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/03/24/2017-05639/membership-solicitation-for-hydrographic-services-review-panel. The call for applications is advertised in the FRN and on the HSRP website.

NOAA will install five new members each of the following years: January 2018, January 2019 and January 2020. The timing of the Call for Nominations solicitation will close on May 30 of the prior year.

How many meetings are there?
There are 2 public meetings of approximately three days each. There are member informational/ administrative meetings and working group meetings throughout the year.

Are members paid?
Members are paid only when they are advising NOAA during public meetings for approximately six total days a year. NOAA pays for travel to the public meetings in accord with the Federal Travel Regulations.

Why do you need so much time?
It is a long review and vetting process. There are multiple layers of reviews, vetting, your package is processed through multiple NOAA and DOC offices and is vetted prior to the selection announcement.

Why do you ask me for a biography?
We ‘ll use your short biography throughout the vetting and review process, for a press announcement, and will post it on the web if you are selected to serve.

I’m a Federal, State or local employee, can I apply to serve?
Only non-Federal employees are eligible to serve on the HSRP. State and local employees are eligible to serve.

How many terms can I serve?
Members can serve a maximum of 2 four year terms.

I’d like to send you my recent 20 page paper, can I?
Your statement of interest should be no longer than 6 pages total. Please don’t submit your 20 page paper, however you are encouraged to provide a website or magazine citation on where to find your paper.
